SDCC She-Ra (custom doll)

Description

I received my SDCC She-Ra figure last week & I have to say I totally love her.
However there were a few little things that just niggled at me ever so slightly. First of all, I am a huge fan of the vintage figures & I was a little disappointed with the vintage style costume she came with so i decided to make her a vintage outfit slightly closer to that of the 80's figures. Secondly i felt her hair was just a bit too short for She-Ra. It was fine for Adora but i just thought it should be a little longer for She-Ra so i Made her a wig from an old Barbie doll.

For her outfit I started off by making her a leotard using white lycra fabric.
I then covered her upper body in plastic wrap to protect it as i sculpted her chest plate directly onto her body using a product called 'fixit sculpt'. The little center circles which frame the jewel came from a Barbie dress.
Once the 'Fixit had set i painted the chest plate using white & gold Humbrol enamel paints.
when the paint had dried i then superglued a small craft jewel in the center.
I then put plastic wrap onto her upper body again & put her leotart over the top of it. At this point i superglued the chest plate directly onto the leotard. The plastic wrap prevented the glue going directly onto her body through the leotard.

Next up was her cape.
I found 2 different types of fabric online, one was a red iridescent silk fabric & the other was an iridescent organza.
I cut out both fabrics into equal sized rectangles. It would have been too difficult to hem the organza so to prevent it fraying i applied clear nail varnish along the cut edges of the fabric.
I then gathered one of the long ends of the rectangle into small pleats with a needle & thread. this would make the neck of the cape.
For the white collar of the cape i made 2 small fan shapes from a very thin white net curtain fabric & then hand stitched them to the neck of the cape.
to finish it i got some gold elastic & stitched it to each side of the collar so it would fit under her arms to keep the cape in place (the same way the vintage figures cape works)

for her skirt i got a vintage She-Ra figures skirt & put in into my scanner. I then enlarged the image & printed it out. this would make the pattern for the belt section of my SDCC She-Ra belt.
I got some fake leather & stuck some gold self adhesive foil to it. I then taped the pattern (i had previously printed out) to the foil & cut around it.
after that i got some gold holographic tape & cut out the shape for the front of the belt & stuck it in place.

Next up was her skirt which i made from the same fabric as the collar section of her cape. I cut out a large section & hand stitched it to the belt using yellow thread. I pleated the fabric as i stitched it to the belt.
At this point the skirt looked like a large ball gown.
I then attached 2 popper buttons to the back of the belt section & put it onto She-Ra. Next I cut the skirt to the correct shape.

For her wig i got a barbie doll & cut her scalp with a sharp craft knife. this made a perfect wig for she-Ra which i Stitched directly to her head with fine fishing line & a large needle. If you do not want to stitch the wig directly to your doll you could always attach it using pins.

I then styled her hair so as the wig joint could not be seen & put her tiara on.

to complete her look I painted the red sections of her bracelets with gold glitter paint & i also painted her nails red.

I hope you like how she turned out

Congratulations on the DD.

Really gorgeous work! The original Mattel designs for me were always better than the Filmation versions.
