Description

its the weekend again so its time to do some artwork for my own personal collection.

this time i wanted to add another character to my star trek toon collection but instead of adding a character from one of the actual series or movies i wanted to do something a little different.

I really wanted to add the neptunian to my star trek collection as he was one of the first star trek action figures released back in the 1970's. he was made by Mego & was in the second wave of their star trek line. unlike most of the other figures in this line the neptunian was not based on any other alien that appeared in any of the original series episodes. I thought he was a cool looking alien for the time so this is why i really wanted to add my version of him to my collection.

for anyone who is unfamiliar with the figure, you can see him at this link... www.megomuseum.com/startrek/im…

Was this a case with Mego repurposing the Mravel Comics' "Green Goblin" outfit to create a "new "alien"? The toy company did something similar for the "Gorn", using the head from its Marvel Comics "Lizard" with the uniform previously used for the Klingon, which I think was also used for Mego's "Planet of the Apes" line.

Not that I blame them. Mego was the powerhouse of the 70s...until it passed on the chance to make Star Wars action figures. That pretty much spelled the company's doom as the paradigm majorly shifted.
